Pilot attempted to get information - King Air VH-OYA
No help from ATSB re King Air VH-OYA
I recently spoke to a commercial pilot of a King Air that is regularly used for Charter. He had heard through the grapevine of the incident of a military pilot climbed a King Air (VH-OYA) to 25,000’ without the bleed air systems being turned on (see under the BASI and ATSB Index Page “King Air accident – was BASI (ATSB) responsible”, “Did the BASI cover-up cost lives?” and “BASI/ATSB – Keep the lid on the problems – blame those who won’t object – Kendell and military safety incidents” on this website). The incident sounded so serious that the pilot contacted the ATSB and the Asia-Pacific Air Safety publication in attempt to get more information. They could not help him.
We now know that nothing was distributed to pilots about this serious incident. It did not come to light until after 8 people lost their lives in the accident of King Air VH-SKC near Normanton. The pilot requesting the information has said to me, “Dick, I cannot believe it, with such a serious safety incident, you would think that the ATSB or CASA would warn pilots to help reduce the chance of a problem recurring. In this case, not only do they not warn anyone, I couldn’t even get the full information”.
